Sylvia: A Movie Review

“Life was too small to contain her”

Sylvia a dramatic tale depicting the life of Sylvia Plath, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, was released October 17, 2003 to good reviews. Sylvia is a biopic film illustrating the inner turmoil Plath endured throughout her short adult life.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s convincing portrayal of a Plath’s self destructive life hits a cord with its audience. Sylvia brings a deeper understanding into the dark world of Plath and her poetry. This film puts a face to the name in a way that leaves one wanting more. The inner chaos of Plath is perfectly proportioned with the plot, her life, there is no excuses or apologizes. Sylvia is just like Plath herself, straight forward, dark, and deep. This film is a dramatic masterpiece. Sylvia finds the “light” through all of the darkness which is in itself, the short life of Sylvia Plath. This film is definitely worth the 110 minute duration. The entire cast gives a dramatic performance worth seeing. Sylvia holds true to Plath’s whirlwind life and death- making one believe that “Life was too small to contain her.”
